Dwelling Fire at 742 Third Street

Station 18 was dispatched with Station 2 for a dwelling fire at 742 Third Street, Catasauqua Boro. Upon arrival, Chief 201 struck the 2nd Alarm when he found heavy fire on the exterior of 742 Third St and threatening the B-side exposure at 740 Third St.

Engine 1811 responded and established a water supply from 3rd & Chapel Streets. A 1-3/4" attack line was stretched into the initial fire building to start a fire attack. Engine 1812 and Attack 1871 also responded to transport manpower to the scene. Truck 231 positioned themselves in front of the fire building but was restricted from operation due to wires overhead. Engine 211 grabbed the hydrant at 3rd & Walnut Streets and laid in as well and stretched additional attack lines. Four 1-3/4" attack lines were stretched into the dwellings on multiple floors and a booster reel was used to cool the exterior between the 2 residences. The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down however, it did extend into the attic and required extensive overhaul of the two residences. The fire remains under investigation by the Catasauqua Police Department.

Personnel from multiple fire departments responded to the fire, including Catasauqua, North Catasauqua, Whitehall (Fullerton and West Catasauqua), Han-Le-Co, Northampton, Greenwalds and Woodlawn for RIT, and Coplay for cascades services.

The exposure at 740 Third St was the scene of an earlier fire on April 15, 2011. Read that story here.
